The Masters Golf Tournament - The Facts

The Masters Golf Tournament is one of the four major golf tournaments in the professional golf world. The uniqueness of this tournament lies in the fact that it is always held at the Augusta National Golf Club, which was co-founded by the legendary Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts. If you want to actually be at the event to see the tournament, then there are only two options available to you. One is to qualify as a professional winning golfer – and the Masters has strict criteria for this qualification. The other is to pay a top price for a ticket from a ticket broker or from a scalper.

Qualifying: You have to win (or come in the top) at least one major tournament to get an invitation to the Masters Golf Tournament. The tournaments in this list include the

  • U.S. Open
  • British Open
  • PGA Championship
  • Players Championship
  • Tour Championship
  • Final Official PGA Tour Money List
  • Final Official World Golf Ranking
  • U.S. Amateur Championship
  • British Amateur Championship
  • U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
  • U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship

The people who do qualify will at the minimum get an invitation for one year and at the maximum for five. If you win the Masters you get a lifetime invitation.

Buying the practice ticket: Tickets to the Masters Golf Tournament are as tough to get as those of the Super Bowl. It is easier (and cheaper) to get tickets to the practice days. These are marginally less difficult to get because they are not tournament tickets.

You can actually apply to the Masters and hope to strike it lucky because tickets are sold in a kind of lottery system. Just fill in your application in June for the tournament in April – yes, you have to plan in advance. Or you can buy them from the ticketing sites or even eBay.

Buying the tournament ticket: But the magic of watching the pros playing during the Masters Tournament is unmatchable so if you are a golf aficionado and have the money to spare, then go for it. The earlier you book your tickets – these are available from various internet sites – the safer you’ll be. In the end tickets get sold out and if there are any left, they are exorbitantly priced.

You can even buy complete packages which include stay, breakfast and entry to the tournaments as well as some add-ons depending on which package is available and how much you want to spend.
